Product quality
From the origin to the shop counter.

Our measures in cultivation and the context of auditing fruit and vegetable suppliers go far beyond the conventional certifications by the organic control bodies. As a registered importer of ecological products, we offer our customers added value and see ourselves as a service provider for the trade due to the following services:

  • We maintain long-term relationships with our suppliers and prefer direct purchases from producers or producer groups
  • We visit our suppliers on-site and carry out our own audits
  • To maintain the organic integrity and to be able to assess the risks from individual suppliers, we carry out our own organic risk analysis
  • We rely on our product-related and risk-oriented residue monitoring, analyses are only carried out in an accredited laboratory

With a variety of measures, such as visits to suppliers and assistance for them and other service providers, we ensure that we continuously and guaranteed deliver the best quality that nature has to offer us. With our partly self-imposed measures, we protect soil, air, water and thus people and animals.

Our qualities

Food safety and ensuring organic integrity across the entire supply chain are our maxim.

As part of the supplier audits we regularly carry out, the harvesting processes are checked and on-site leaf and soil samples are taken. In addition, the on-site packing structures and the documentation of the suppliers are also audited. We know the hotspots very well. That is why we know where we need to take the crucial quality samples.

We work very closely with the laboratory Dr. Lippert. Our own agricultural engineers work on his behalf in the main growing areas of Spain and Italy, taking pre-harvest samples or samples from current delivery batches directly on-site on our behalf and sending them to the laboratory in Germany for analysis. This enables us to monitor the framework conditions for optimal product quality on the farms.

The EU organic seal is the minimum requirement for our products.

  •     Since July 2010, all packaged organic food produced in the EU has carried the EU organic seal.
  •     The seal guarantees compliance with the European organic regulation. This ensures freedom from genetic engineering, more species-appropriate animal husbandry and the renunciation of chemical-synthetic pesticides and fertilizers.
  •     The corresponding organic inspection body number is always attached to the packaging of our products, e.g. DE-ÖKO-001 (DE = Germany – 001 = responsible inspection body).
  •     Our organic control point number is DE-ÖKO-039.

Demeter e.V. is the oldest organic association in Germany. Demeter farmers have been cultivating their fields biodynamically since 1924. Due to the lively circular economy, Demeter agriculture is considered the most sustainable form of land management and goes far beyond the requirements of the EU organic regulation. The biodynamic way of farming goes back to the impulses of Rudolf Steiner, who also initiated Waldorf education and anthroposophical healing methods at the beginning of the 20th century (source: Demeter).

The main advantages are:

  • Total change of operation on the farms
  • Compulsory animal husbandry for farms or at least cooperation with an exchange of fodder and manure.
  • 100 percent of the feed must be organic feed. Two-thirds of all feed used must be of Demeter quality, with ruminants the Demeter share must be 80 percent. At least 50 percent of the feed must come from your own farm or a cooperative farm.
  • No painful dehorning of the cows.
  • Use of biodynamic preparations made from herbs, minerals and cow dung.
  • Own varieties and breeding work in the field of grain, vegetables and poultry. In the case of cereals, only fixed varieties shall be used, hybrid varieties are excluded. In general, no varieties from cell fusion technology may be used.
  • Only a few absolutely necessary additives and process aids are allowed in processing. Iodisation, nitrite curing salt and so-called natural aromas are prohibited. Only aroma extracts are permitted. The EU organic regulation still allows additives that are taboo at Demeter (source: Demeter).
