The Öko-Feldtage have established themselves nationwide as the premier outdoor trade fair for organic agriculture. They serve as a meeting place and exhibition venue for an innovative industry that integrates ecological, economic, and social considerations. This year’s trade fair theme is: Water Conservation. For the organic producers and importers lehmann natur and Bivano, this is an important issue. “Our organic farmers are already making an important contribution to water conservation. Not only do they avoid using pesticides, but they also enhance the soil’s ability to absorb and store water through targeted humus buildup. At the same time, many of them—especially in countries with low rainfall and in intensive farming systems—rely on irrigation for their fields,” says Raphael Kennerknecht, managing director of lehmann natur. This makes it all the more tragic when valuable organic products end up in the trash instead of on consumers’ plates.
